AR celebrates Yaoshang across state

Imphal, March 19 2025: Assam Rifles marked the vibrant festival of Yaoshang with a series of sporting and cultural events across the state, strengthening its bond with local communities through friendly matches, traditional competitions, and youth engagement, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.

According to the PRO, at Chandrakhong village in Thoubal district,.Yaoshang festivities included a football match between Assam Ri ties troops and local youths, tug-of-war competition for local women, traditional Meitei dance performances, fun games for children, including relay and sack races culminating with presentation of gifts to the participants.

At Serou village in Kakching district, friendly matches between Assam Rifles personnel and local teams were held apart from volleyball competition.

Local MLA K Ranjit Singh, who attended the closing event, commended Assam Rifles for its role in encouraging youth participation and strengthening community ties, said the PRO, adding that at Irengband village, also in Kakching district, Assam Rifles organised a volleyball match with local youth and distribution of sports kits to the village club.

Similar programmes were also conducted at Keithelmanbi village in Imphal West district and Tangjeng Khunou in Kakching district, informed the PRO .
