Tributes paid to martyred soldiers

Assam Rifles organised two solemn wreath-laying ceremonies to honour the supreme sacrifices of Rfn/Gd Bhim Sain and Sub Kehar Singh, both from 33 Assam Rifles.
On Thursday, Assam Rifles held a wreath-laying ceremony for Sub Kehar Singh, who made the ultimate sacrifice on July 11, 2003.Subedar Kehar Singh's column was tasked to cordon an area where two individuals were held hostage by KYKL cadres.
At 2.30 am, the cordon came under heavy fire.
Despite sustaining a bullet injury to his jaw, Subedar Kehar Singh managed to kill one cadre before succumbing to his injuries.
For his act of extraordinary bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra on Republic Day 2005.Assam Rifles paid homage to him at the War Memorial.
Five officers, 17 junior commissioned officers, and 152 other ranks of Assam Rifles paid tribute by laying wreaths and according a guard of honour, said PRO IGAR (S) in a release.
The PRO also informed that on Wednesday, a ceremony was held to commemorate Rfn/Gd Bhim Sain, who laid down his life on July 10, 2002 .
Rifleman Bhim Sain was driving the leading Gypsy vehicle of the commandant's quick reaction team when it came under multiple IED attacks and heavy automatic fire.
He stopped the vehicle along the hillside where the fifth IED exploded just one metre away, causing severe injuries to which he succumbed.
His exceptional bravery saved the lives of his comrades, and he was posthumously awarded the Sena medal (gallantry) on Independence Day 2003.Assam Rifles honoured Rfn/Gd Bhim Sain at the War Memorial with a wreath-laying ceremony.
Four officers, 21 junior commissioned officers, and 161 other ranks laid wreaths and accorded a guard of honour, according to the release.
