Workshop on folk music ends

A 22-day workshop-cum-production on folk music organised by Leimarol Singgi Seishak-kol, Imphal under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, concluded on Wednesday at Manipur Dramatic Union auditorium, Yaiskul Police Lane.
The valedictory programme was attended by JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash as chief guest, Leimarol Singgi Seishakkol vice-president L Bidyarani as functional president and Department of Art and Culture state coordinator Sh Nabachandra as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, Pukhrambam Bilash noted that through folk music embraced and practised by contemporary artistes is not the same as that of the ancestors, it is heartening that many have chosen to pursue careers as folk singers.
While expressing optimism about the imminent revival and popularity of folk music, Bilash also pointed out the challenges faced by artistes in the state, particularly female performers, who are often compelled to abandon their profession after marriage for various reasons.
As part of the programme, artistes of Lei marol Singgi Seishakkol presented folk music and cultural performances.
