Sit-in flays killing, arrest of VVs

Denouncing the killing of a village volunteer Laishram Prem at Salungpham in Thoubal district, arrest of six others and re-imposition of AFSPA in the state, a sit-in protest was staged at Oinam Bazar on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines the sit-in, Oinam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary Chongtham Anoubi asked the state government to instruct the security forces not to target those serving as village volunteers and protecting the state.
She said that the mothers of Manipur shall not tolerate attempts to slay the Meeteis, especially in light of the ongoing crisis.
The activist also called for the dismissal of the police commandos involved in the killing of Prem and for the unconditional release of the six village volunteers arrested by the police, while also reiterating the demand for repealing AFSPA from the state.
During the sit-in protest organised by Oinam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup under the aegis of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), the participants displayed placards inscribed with messages such as "We condemn the killing of village volunteers", "Challenge the Kuki narco-terrorists instead of killing village volunteers", "Punish those involved in the killing of village volunteers.
