Young Horizons Peace marchers reach Jorhat

Imphal, February 18: Red-clad marchers of the Young Horizon, Manipur arrived at the district headquarters of Jorhat, Assam today carrying the message of peace, love and unity among the people of the North east region.

The marchers had set out for Jorhat from Jhanji which is under Sivnagar this morning.

Retired principal of Hemnath Sharma College Rajanikanta Goswami had flagged off the march from Jhanji.

Nagaon is the next destination of the march being organised as the first activity of the Young Horizon, Manipur which was established last year.

Along with arrival of the marchers at the office building of Assam Sahitya Sava at Jorhat town today, a press conference was held.

Addressing the press conference, spokesperson of he Young Horizon Manipur Longjam Ratan reiterated that all the indigenous people living in the North East are of Mongoloid stock and they are suffering the same problem.

Whether it is in term of ensuring basic amenities like proper road communication, electricity supply and health care facilities or human rights protection among other important issues, North Eastern States are still lagging behind other mainstream States, he said, while explaining that the march is being organised with the main objective of facilitating the people to understand their common problem and work toward achieving the common goal.

He also presented a brief account of the journey so far to enlighten the media persons based there.

At night, a reception programme in honour of the marchers was organised by the local people.
