Irate locals block NH

Imphal, May 13 2015 : Irate people hailing from the localities of the two youths, who died during interrogation by KRF cadres in Mapao Khullen, have started imposing indefinite bandh along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) in protest against the incident.

JAC constituted against the incident and angry locals said that the bandh would continue until befitting punishments are awarded to the perpetrators.

It is said that the two youths were engaged in welding works of a hall of Needy Home Academy, Mapao Khullen.

The two deceased youths have been identified as Moirangthem Dayananda (20) s/o Bihari of Patsoi Part-III and Maibam Premananda (21) s/o Bihari of Haorang Keirel.

Since early morning, a large number of people came out on the highway and blocked the road by making human chains and placing tree branches, boulders and burning tyres on the road at different points of Patsoi.

The irate locals did not allow any vehicle to pass the agitation site.

A large police team led by Imphal West Additional SP (Law and Order) S Ibomcha and other officers were deployed at different localities on the highway to prevent unwanted incidents.

The road leading towards Tharoijam village from NH-37 was also blocked by the agitators.

Later, people of Patsoi Part I to IV and Haorang Keirel conducted a joint public meeting at the ground of Patsoi Tuliyaima Century Club.

Apart from the representatives of various civil society organizations, Patsoi AC MLA and Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai also took part in the meeting.

Apart from constituting a JAC against the incident, the locals also took some resolutions, which were submitted to the Chief Minister in the form of a memorandum through AK Mirabai.

The resolutions of the meeting included not to claim the bodies until substantial leads regarding the incident are established by the police within two days.

They also demanded that the culprits be awarded befitting punishment in a transparent manner.

The locals also resolved to seek clarification from KRF why they had brutally killed the two youths and thrashed a minor boy.

They said that they would continue their highway bandh until the culprits are identified to the public.

They also urged the leaders of different civil society organizations to hold a meeting with Kuki organisation leaders and ask them to spell out the reasons why the two youths were brutally killed and an innocent minor boy.

Speaking to reporters, JAC convenor A Kalpana said that the State Government has been maintaining silence although such incidents are happening at regular intervals.

She said that the JAC would never settle the issue through compensation.

The JAC would assume that the State Government is no more able to maintain law and order if befitting punishments are not awarded to the involved KRF cadres.

She also said that the Government must take up necessary measures to avoid communal flare-up.
