Gen strike called off

The proposed indefinite Statewide general strike slated to begin from 4pm today in connection with the killing of Seitinlal Kipgen and Tongkhosat Haokip, who were found dead on the top of a hillock near Nongpok Sekmai on May 8, was called off following a positive assurance from the Government.
An agreement was reached between the representatives of the JAC formed in connection with the killing and Sadar Hills KSO on one side and the State Govt represented by the Deputy Chief Minister today.
Dy CM Gaikhangam assured the KSO and JAC representatives that the culprits would be arrested within a week and suitable Government job would be provided to the family members besides payment of ex-gratia to the next of kins of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the families of the two victims have claimed the dead bodies.
The meeting today was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, also in-charge of Home; IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip; Saikul constituency MLA Yamthong Haokip; and representatives of KSO, Sadar Hills, said Thangmilen Kipgen, Sadar Hills KSO, president, while briefing reporters at JNIMS Morgue.
They had gone missing since April 29.The highly decomposed bodies of the duo were found at Kamu Ching, a hillock near Nongpok Sekmai under Yairipok Police Station in Imphal East district on May 8 .
Seitinlal Kipgen (50) of Bongbal Khullen in Saikul sub-division in Sadar Hills and Thongkhosat Haokip (35) of Masemjang village in Churachandpur district were reportedly kidnapped by unidentified persons from Nongpok Keithelmanbi on April 29 .
Seitinlal had run a pharmacy at Nongpok Keithelmanbi while Thongkhosat is a carpenter.
Thangminlen however warned that intense agitation would be launched if the Government fails to fulfill its promises within the specified time.
