Imphal, March 04 2015:
Terming Education Minister M Okendro's statement given in the State Assembly regarding non-issuance of admit cards to around 2000 students of the State by CBSE as irresponsible, REACHOUT has demanded his resignation.
In a statement, REACHOUT said that Dr Satbir Bedi, Chairperson of CBSE had written a letter on February 17, 2015 to the Chief Secretary to verify the details of the listed students by the Secretary of Education, Government of Manipur by February 19 last, but this has not been done till date.
There were serious lapses and irresponsibility on the part of the Education Department and Education Minister regarding the urgent matters of these students, the statement added.
Instead of admitting their fault, the Minister blamed the parents to cover up their irresponsibility and negligence, the statement said.
It further said that at this crucial juncture, the State Government must take the responsibility of providing an alternative arrangement to these 'victim' students to avoid losing one academic year.
The statement said that the Education Minister showed his ignorance by stating that the number of 'victim' students would not exceed 400 or 500 .
In fact, MM Higher Secondary School alone had 617 students of Class X and 657 students of Class XII .
The Minister's statement showed his irresponsibility, ignorance and negligence, the statement said and added that the Government has not taken any action against the Principals of the schools which have been continuously facing similar instance in the past couple of years.
Moreover, REACHOUT has not heard any immediate action against the Principals of six schools although the matter had been put up before the DGP on March 3 .
At this juncture, there is strong suspicion that an education crime racket is still at large and nepotism is going on at the higher level, the statement added. It also questioned why a panel has been set up so late only after a hue and cry although similar cases had been witnessed in Ramkrishna School, Ghari and Little Rose, Canchipur in the past couple of years.
As such, REACHOUT has no option but to sue the Principals of the schools, Director concerned and Minister.
