One beaten to death, six held

Imphal, December 03 2024: Police have arrested at least six persons on the charge of getting involved in a family feud at Khonghampat Mayai Leikai on November 30 and beating a person to death.

The arrested persons have been identified as Laishram Rajesh (44) of Khongampat Awang Leikai, Saikhom Rajesh (25) of Loitang Leikinthabi, Shijagurumayum Haridayananda Sharma (22) of Khonghampat Khunou, Laishram Ngamba Meitei (25) of Khonghampat Awang Leikai, Langam Luwangba Meitei (33) of Potsangbam Khullen Mayai Leikai and Laishram Dickson (21) of Khamaran Mamang Leikai.

It is reported that the deceased Takhellambam Indra-kumar (53) of Khongampat Mayai Leikai had an argument with his younger brother Takhellambam Sunil (51) over keeping harvested rice sacks at their courtyard on November 30.As per police complaint lodged by the wife of the deceased Parbati (48), Sunil informed the village volunteers of Khonghampat about the altercation, following which some village volunteers led by Khomdram Paikhomba, Laishram Rajesh and Arambam Rajesh picked up Takhellambam Indrakumar and assaulted him.

It is further said that Indrakumar was first taken to Community Health Centre Sekmai and later evacuated to RIMS.

Indrakumar, however, was declared dead by the doctors at RIMS at around 2.16 am on December 1, 2024 .
