Imphal, January 28 2015:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) is set to launch a drive against the vehicles which do not inscribe registration numbers in Meetei script from the first week of February.
Speaking to reporters, MEELAL president Sadokpam Tomba Mangang said that the organisation has been requesting the general public to inscribe the registration number of their vehicles in Meetei script without disturbing the high security number plates.
He added that MEELAL has also been demanding the Transport Department to include Meetei script in high security number plates.
After rounds of talk and negotiation, the Department has agreed to inscribe registration numbers in Meetei script without disturbing the existing high security number plates, S Tomba said.
He added that from the first week of February, MEELAL would detain the vehicles along with RC books if its registration numbers are not inscribed in Meetei script.
S Tomba said that the drive would be carried out at different areas including parking lots.
Taking part at the press conference, MEELAL vice-president Moirangthem Naokhamba said that statues of seven Maichous and freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu have been constructed inside the compound of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok.
These statues would promote love, understanding and harmony among the people of hill and valley areas, he added.
Naokhamba said that similar statues would be constructed at Manipuri film actor RK Kaiku's garden located at Maiba Khul as well.
He added that MEELAL does not work against any religion.
However, the organisation wants people to conduct prayer in their own language, he added.
