Meeting on provident fund held

As part of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)'s Nationwide cam-paign starting from Nov 15, 2014 for enrolment of all eligible contract employees and building & construction workers as EPF members, Samom Dinachandra Singh, Regional PF Commissioned (Compliance & Recovery), EPFO, Regional Office Guwahati organised a meeting today at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal.
The meeting was attended by officials representing 22 different Central/State Govt Authorities/CPSUs/SPSUs/ Autonomous bodies like FCI, AAI, NIC, ICAR, BSNL, NHPC Ltd, CAU, Imphal, State Labour Department, IFCD, Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Govt of Manipur, Manipur State Power Company Ltd, MSRRDA, Directorate of Higher Education, Govt of Manipur, Department of Forest, Govt of Manipur, PHED, Manipur Pollution Control Board, Imphal Municipal Corporation, RIMS, Imphal, Loktak Development Authority, Department of Consumers Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Govt of Manipur etc, informed a statement.
During the meeting various issues relating to the roles and responsibilities of the principal employers and contractors in reporting compliance with the provisions of the EPF & MP Act 52, present status and scope for enrolment of contract employees/ building & construction workers as EPF members in the State, benefits available under the three statutory schemes of the EPF & MP Act 52 like provident fund, pension and insurance coverage for the employees, provisions for online registration of employers, online transfer claim portal, allotment of universal account numbers to all EPF members to ensure portability of EPF accounts, penal provisions under the said Act '52 for noncompliance against the defaulters etc were discussed.
RK Balaram, Sr Inspector representing State Labour Department, Govt of Manipur assured to extend all necessary cooperation in disseminating awareness among the employers and employees in the State and to share relevant information with the local EPF Office.
The Regional PF Commissioned Compliance & Recovery) reiterated that compliance with the provisions of the EPF & MP Act'52 is mandatory but not optional in respect of those establishments which are engaged in any of the 187 activities listed in the Schedule-I/ notified class of establishments of the Act'52 and having employment strength of 20 or more on any single day as the Act'52 applies to such establishment from the day 20 persons are employed.
He appealed to all the participating authorities to strictly monitor the compliance status of all the contractors so that the social security benefits may reach all the eligible workers particularly the contract employees/ building & construction workers to avoid future complication.
The meeting ended with a word of appreciation by the Regional P F Commissioner (Compliance & Recovery) for the positive response received from all the departments and organizations concerned, it added.
