Imphal, January 28 2015:
A day after Koirengei Awang Chaokhat Thourang Committee along with the locals started the repairing works of the major road along Koirengei to Awang Sekmai, the committee has, during an inspection drive with reporters today, said the same would be blacktopped by March this year.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the inspection drive, the committee advisor Nandalal Angomcha said the conditions of the roads, along Koirenggei to Awang Sekmai, worsened as loaded trucks started to pass by the roads after the State imposed a ban on quarrying of pebbles and sands from Sekmai riverbed.
According to him, more than 500 trucks carrying pebbles or sand pass the road everyday including those trucks employed by the 34 stone crushing firms of the State.

The locals had submitted a memorandum asking the State Government to repair the road by January 26 .
But the Government failed to give any positive response.
As such, locals volunteered to repair the 7 kms long road at their own expenses, he added.
The committee has also started to collect donations from the trucks that pass along the road everyday.
The repairing works would hopefully be completed by March, Nandalal said.
Nandalal, while welcoming the State's decision to build a ring road also opined that the best step for the Government at present would be to improve the condition of the roads before anything else.
Thangmeiband A/C MLA Kh Joykisan, who was also present during the drive, touted the road as one of the lifelines of the State.
Considering its contributions to the State's revenue, the MLA said the road could be turned into a highway bypass as it is much shorter than the normal route along Pheidinga.
Mention may be made here that the MLA has financially aided the committee for the repair works.
