Schools to reopen from Aug 3

The State Government has decided to re-open all the educational institutions of greater Imphal area from August 3 .
The decision was taken in an emergency Cabinet meeting held with Chief Minister Okram in the chair at his office chamber at around 4 pm today.
Later in the evening, Higher and Technical Education Deputy Secretary Y Dimbajit and Education (S) Joint Secretary Md Abdus Salam issued separate notifications regarding resump- tion of classes from August 3 .
Meanwhile, Education Minister M Okendro has appealed to the school and college authorities to conduct extra classes to com- pensate the lost days.
Stating that death of Sapam Robinhood was an unfortunate incident, the Minister said that the Government announced closure of educational institutions in greater Imphal area to ensure physical safety and security of the students.
Now, the Government has decided to reopen these educational institutions considering the possible loss of academic year of students due to the prolonged suspension of classes, he said.
The Minister further said that the Government was compelled to close the educational institutions of great- er Imphal area to ensure physical safety and security of students owing to the curfew, bandh and general strike and disturbances created by the agitation demanding implementation of ILPS.
The Minister also urged the public to keep education as a disturbance free zone.
Saying that the State Government respects DESAM's PIL filed at High Court of Manipur pleading for a directive to re-open educational institutes, Okendro urged the public to create an atmosphere where students can attend their classes without any disturbance.
It may be mentioned that all the educational institutes of greater Imphal area were closed by the Government after Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy student Sapam Robinhood died in police action on a group of student protesters on July 8 .
On July 13, the Government convened a joint meeting of school/college Principals, University faculties and student representatives regarding opening of these educational institutes.
