Imphal, July 11 2024: The proscribed PREPAK (Pro) rounded up one Kharibam Nimai (40) s/o Irabot of Mutum Phibou Mayai Leikai, who was found extorting from the public using the name of the outfit.

On Thursday, parading Nimai before the media in Bishnupur district area, a PREPAK (Pro) spokesperson reminded all concerned that it had earlier declared to keep on hold all monetary demands in view of the prevailing unrest situation in Manipur and expressed resentment that someone used the outfit's name to extort money from the public.

The spokesperson continued that Kharibam Nimai came to the outfit's attention after he made a demand of Rs 3 lakh to a family.

Thus, he was called by the outfit, following which he also disclosed to have collected Rs 60,500 from 69 shops at Luxmi Bazar in the name of the party.

After Nimai was made to understand the situation, he was handed over to his family and locality after giving strict warning.

If Nimai continues to extort the people, the outfit will take suitable action, the spokesperson warned.
