Imphal, December 23 2024: The 12th death anniversary of cameraman Thangjam Dwijamani (Nanao), who was killed in police firing while covering a public movement against the assault of an actress on December 23, 2012, along with offering of floral tributes was observed at Thangmeiband Cheirao Ching on Monday.

The observance was attended by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam, Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) president Pratap Leishangthem, AMWJU ex-president W Shyamjai, AMWJU members, locals, Meira Paibi members and the family of Dwijamani.

Speaking on the occasion, Bijoy Kakchingtabam urged the people to understand the role played by media persons in the current situation of Manipur and assist in preventing any incident from befalling upon the latter.

He continued that discussions are being held to honour Dwijamani's legacy while asserting that, despite the injuries - some even fatal, many journalists continue to perform their duties for the people of the state.

TUC president Pratap lauded the state media fraternity for remembering Dwijamani every year.
