Imphal, April 08 2025:
Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency Panchayat Administrative Committee on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the DC of Imphal East, urging action against local MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan for allegedly opening fire during a public confrontation.
The submission followed a protest demonstration held in front of the DC office complex at Porompat.
Committee president SA Malik described the incident, which occurred on April 5, as deeply unfortunate and condemned the MLA's reported act of discharging a firearm among civilians.
Kshetrigao GP Part 2 chairperson Ajmal also criticised the MLA, stating that development works are intended for public benefit and expressing disappointment over the disruption caused.
People had hoped for his support, but instead, the MLA interfered in the land development work by firing in public, he said.
The committee also submitted a memorandum to the Imphal East SP, urging a thorough investigation and appropriate action, while dismissing the MLA's claims through the media and social media as baseless.
In a separate development, Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) strongly condemned the MLA's recent public allegation linking Yumkhaibam Makha Leikai area with illegal drug trade.
YADA president Md Hellauddin said the organisation had been conducting an anti-drug drive for the past seven months, resulting in the successful sanitisation of the area.
He said the MLA's remark was misleading and unjust, and further criticised him for raking up unrelated past incidents.
YADA demanded a public clarification from the MLA at the earliest.
