Imphal, January 31 2025: Police have arrested two members of "Volunteers' Welfare Fund" on the charge of threatening and locking down the office of East India Transport Company located at Mantripukhri Mercy Lane on Thursday.

The arrested members have been identified as Yumlembam Khelen Singh alias Yairemba alias Thoiba alias John (40) s/o Y Chaoba Singh of Keirao Bitra Lairembi Leikai and Huidrom Langamba Singh (30) s/o Rajen Singh of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leikai.

According to a police report, on the night of January 29, two unidentified armed men arrived at the office of East India Transport Company and issued threats.

The duo locked the office and served a demand letter of Volunteers' Welfare Fund based in Sagolband Tera Ingudam Leirak.

In this regard, Heingang PS registered a sou moto case and launched investigation subsequently leading to Imphal East district police arresting Yumlembam Khelen and Huidrom Langamba, of Volunteers' Welfare Fund in connection with the extortion racket case.

The team also recovered two mobile phones, one lock with key and a demand note.
