Thoubal, April 08 2025: A 48-hour shutdown has been called along the Yairipok-Azad junction to Nongpok Keithelmanbi road, Imphal East district under Andro assembly constituency from midnight of April 8.Addressing a press meet organised by Yairipok to Nongpok Keithelmanbi Road Development Organisation at Yairipok Yambem Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Laibung community hall on Tuesday, Organisation's co-convener Premkumar Loukrakpam stated that a public meeting held on April 2 resolved to ban movement of heavy vehicles on the said route and had demanded authorities concerned to blacktop the road within five days.

Confirming imposition of the 48-hour shutdown, he said memorandums were submitted to the Governor, the Andro MLA and the Imphal East deputy commissioner demanding repair of the road within five days to avert launch of agitation, but to no avail.

As such, decision was taken to launch the road shutdown agitation, he informed, adding that only medical emergency, religious programme, power and water supply services would be exempted from the shutdown.

Decrying alleged indifferent attitude of authorities concerned to its genuine demand for repairing the road stretch which is lifeline for nine villages, Premkumar cautioned that if the road is not blacktopped within the 48-hour shutdown then the organisation along with organisations of the nine villagers and meira paibi groups will launch more intense agitations.
