COCOMI calls for abandoning self-centred perspective

Imphal, February 24 2024: Asserting that self-centric perspective often leads to the downfall of a community, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has called upon the people of the state and different organisations to shun self-centred perspective but to put the community first before anything else.

Addressing a press meet at AIMS office, here, on Saturday, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro said that the current crisis in the state initiated by immigrant narco-terrorists under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement has crossed nine months.

Youth and people of all ages from different corners of the state, as well as different organisations are coming out to safeguard the integrity and identity of Manipur.

With public apprehension of the Central government indirectly supporting the other side, the society is facing a tough situation at present amid the ongoing geopolitics of India.

So far, the Centre has been turning a blind eye to the rampant violation of SoO ground rules by the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.

The situation calls for a united stand while setting aside differences in ideologies and perspectives, towards a common goal, he said.

COCOMI, as well as the public have been supporting movements of different organisations.

History is evident that disunity brought the Seven Years Devastation, and suffered defeat in the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War.

Amid current situation and brainstorming by different organisations to fight the crisis, it is disheartening to see another unprecedented crisis in the society, which led to the burning of COCOMI office.

COCOMI has been at the forefront, spearheading public movement since the crisis erupted.

Some may not be aware but COCOMI is functioning proactively through its different departments including its legal cell with 10 lawyers of the High Court and Supreme Court as advisors.

In Friday's arson, the office premises of the 25-member intellectual cell, which holds several key documents including the chronicles and documentations of the current crisis since the beginning have been burnt.

Unknown to the public eye, COCOMI has been providing assistance and facilities to those killed or injured in the crisis.

At present, some injured people are also getting financial assistance of Rs 5000 each.

It is highly condemnable to burn those important documents, he said while urging any organisation or group of individuals to communicate with COCOMI if they have any issue.

COCOMI decries the burning of its office as well as offices of some other organisations, and bomb blast at the office premises of a student body inside DM College campus that killed one student and injured another.

Even if there are issues, they should put the community and Manipur first, especially when the state is facing a serious threat to its existence and understand the importance of maintaining unity.

It is high time every individual or organisation to shun the self-centred perspectives and stand together to thwart the threat being posed to the state, he appealed.
