Imphal, April 17 2024:
Emphasising the party's distinct approach to politics compared to the BJP and Congress, Republican Party of India (Athawale) (RPI-A) central committee member and north east observer Vinod Nikalje said that RPI (A) does not operate under the influence or control of the high command as these larger parties.
Instead, it maintains independence and focuses on representing the interests of the people of Manipur.
Responding to queries from media persons on his arrival here on Wednesday in connection with the Lok Sabha election, Vinod said his Imphal visit is to support Maheshwar Thounaojam, the RPI (A) candidate for the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha polls, who had pledged before the Lainingthou Sanamahi shrine to uphold territorial integrity of Manipur.
This commitment aligns with the RPI (A) s stance on the crisis lingering in the state since May 3 last year, he said.
Holding Kuki narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants responsible for the crisis, he called for their ouster from the state while declaring that the party is supporting Maheshwar Thounaojam's endeavours to protect Manipur's territorial integrity and will provide him with the freedom and resources to act according to his convictions.
Highlighting the party's commitment to the people of Manipur, Vinod Nikalje said that RPI will not work the wishes of the people and will protect the state's territorial integrity at all costs.
He urged the public to vote for Maheshwar, who has vowed to work towards protecting the state's territorial integrity, eradicating narco-terrorism, and including Meeteis in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list of the Constitution of India.
Maheshwar also spoke to the media, expressing gratitude for the support he received from RPI (A) and his achievement in gaining their endorsement for his pledge to address the issues faced by the people of Manipur.
He noted that though some of the candidates had pledged to address outstanding as well as sensitive issues besieging the state, including the demand for ST status for the Meetei/Meitei, and crackdown on Kuki narco-terrorists, their party leaders are yet to make their stand clear or declare commitments for the welfare of the people of Manipur.
