Ukhrul's elderly get-together held

Ukhrul, May 16 2024:
Phungcham Paorei Varangarai Kharar Long (PPVKL), a social group representing senior citizens from three localities of Phungcham village in Ukhrul district, held a one-day get-together event recently.
Over a hundred elderly individuals converged at Paocham High School for an afternoon of camaraderie and shared experiences.
Social worker Ngamreiwung Horam addressed the gathering as the chief guest and highlighted the importance of respecting and caring for the elders as well as obedience to them.
He emphasised the need for fostering a supportive environment for them and called for establishing a dedicated old age home within the district to cater to the growing needs of the ageing population.
Further enriching the occasion, Village Development Committee (VDC) of Peh village chairman Moon Shimrah shared his insights on the invaluable contributions of the elderly to their community.
He also extended financial support to the organising committee, acknowledging their efforts in bringing the event to fruition.
On the other hand, social activist Thotreihan Ruivah lauded the elders for their spirit of unity and engagement, and praised their initiative in coming together for this special day.
Adding to the positive atmosphere, Phungcham village headman Wungnaongam Horam pledged his support by offering a suitable site for establishment of an elderly home within the village.
