Two held with weapons, search ops continue

Imphal, July 11 2024: Security forces arrested two men with weapons and recovered several weapons during search operations carried out in the state on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to a police report, a police team arrested Kangabam Lenin Singh (43) and Toijam Shantikishore (50) from Paona Bazar near Nambul river area on Wednesday and recovered one INSAS Rifle with two magazines, three live rounds and one Maruti Gypsy from their possession.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal district police and 4 Assam Rifles conducted search operation at Salam Pa-tong under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station from 1.05 pm to 3.45 pm Wednesday and recovered two 36 HE Hand grenades, one modified shell pompi bomb), one cartridge 38 mm (rubber bullet) and one tear gas shell soft nose.

On the other hand, a joint team of Kakching district police and 126 Battalion BSF carried out a patrolling, area domination and search operation from 6.30 am to 7.20 am Thursday at Kakching Ningthou Leikai and Khunyai Leikai.

In all, 65 houses were searched and 140 people verified.

However, no arrests or weapons were recovered.

Another combined team of Bishnupur district police and E-184 BSF searched Ithai Khunou Maning Leikai under Kumbi PS from 6 am to 8 am Thursday.

Altogether 50 houses were searched and 120 people verified.

A combined team of Thoubal district police and 1st Battalion BSF C-coy conducted a search operation from 4.30 am till 6.30 am Thursday at Papal Mamang, Mayai and Maning Leikai under Khongjom PS.

In all, 57 houses were searched and 162 people verified.

On the other hand, a joint team of Chandel district police, 8MR and E-200 BSF carried out area domination at Tampi Khul and surrounding areas from 7.30 am till 8.30 am Thursday.

Another combined team of Chandel district police and G-93 BSF conducted a patrolling along the roads of Komlathabi, Penaching and Purumchumbang under Chandel PS from 6.50 am till 7.45 am Thursday.

There is no report of arrest or recovery of weapon in the last four operations.

Meanwhile, PRO IGAR (S) informed that Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted search operation in Salam Patong area of Thoubal district on July 10, leading to the recovery of mortar bombs, grenades and warlike stores.

The recovered arms, ammunition, magazines and stores have been handed over to the Manipur Police.
