Ramreichan elected TKS new president

Former vice president of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) Ramreichan Keishing was elected the president of the apex Tangkhul student body in its 22nd general assembly held in Ukhrul town on Wednes-day.
In the closely contest-ed election, Ramreichan defeated his lone oppo-nent Yuimi Vashum by a margin of 36 votes.
He secured 248 votes while Vashum, who served as the general secretary of the student body, got 212 votes.
In the contest for the post of vice president, Omri Ningshen defeat-ed his rival Ngachan-ring Muinao.
Ningshen secured 260 votes while Muinao got 195 votes.
During the elections, Thanyui Chithung was elected as the speaker of the student body.
Thanyui Chithung secured 265 votes to defeat his rival Ningthar Kashak who got 190 votes.
Meanwhile, the 30th Naga Students' Federation General Conference which was scheduled to take place in Ukhrul town from June 14 to 17 has been deferred indefinitely.
The local organising committee in a notification cited unavoidable circum-stances for the deferment of the event.
