The five-day long Manipur Tourism Festival, 2008 organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur at Hafta Kangjeibung here since March 12 concluded today amid cultural razzmatazz and call for joint efforts toward development of tourism industries in the State.
Presentation of colourful cultural dances of the various tribes settled in different parts of the State and fashion parade showcasing the rich traditional dresses marked the concluding function of the festival graced by Tourism Minister TN Haokip as chief guest and IFC Minister N Biren as president on the dais.
Speaking at the occasion, TN Haokip observed that the future of the people of Manipur lies in development of tourism and development of tourism would definitely help in augmenting the economy of the State.
So every efforts should be made collectively for development of tourism industries in the State.
Showing respect to the visiting tourists as we respect God and guiding them properly would encourage more and more tourists to come and visit Manipur, he said, while seeking the suggestion of the people in connection with further development of the tourism industries.
In his presidential address, N Biren pointed out that it is high time for the people to analyse and understand why tourists hesitate in visiting Manipur inspite of being bestowed with many enchanting spots.
Taking serious note of the prevailing unsettling situation in the State, Biren noted that creating a conducive atmosphere and friendly environment for the visiting tourists is essential for development of the tourism industries.
Along with participants from other States like Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, in all 116 stalls were set up during the festival displaying various cuisines and handloom and handicraft products.
NGOs and other organisations which have contributed their mite in organising the festival successfully were also honoured with mementos during the valedictory function which also saw the reception of the participants of the motor cycle rally and expedition team taken out as part of the festival.
