Imphal, January 12: The Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur (DESAM) has warned of strong students' movement in case the MPSC follows UPSC patterns and criteria in the upcoming combined examinations for recruitment of MCS, MPS, MFS, SO etc.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon at its head office, DESAM president in-charge PC Newton said that in case MPSC follows eligibility age being prescribed by the UPSC norms as included in its (MPSC) guidelines, DESAM will launch agitation of various sorts against the MPSC, the Chief Minister and the Department of Personnel Secretary.

Maintaining that the MPSC need not follow UPSC rules for recruitment of MCS and MPS officers, Newton demanded that maximum eligibility age for such exams should be 35 years for general category, 38 for OBC and 40 for ST/SC as followed in past MPSC exams.

He also sought explanation from the DP Secretary for proposing the UPSC norms of maximum 30 years for general, 33 for OBC and 35 years for SC/ST.

Alleging that the Cabinet decision adopted in 2005 for one-time age relaxation was a false one, Newton asserted that the Chief Minister as well as the Cabinet Ministers were misled by the DP Secretary.

While inviting for an open debate on the matter, Newton said that states like Punjab, UP, Bihar, Tamil Nadu follow their own recruitment rules.

Considering the lack employment avenues and inability to follow academic calendar in the State, it would be a blunder to adopt UPSC norms and guidelines for MPSC recruitment exams, he observed.

He mentioned that there was a gap of at least 3 to 5 years between two MCS/MPS exams conducted by the MPSC.

So far MPSC has conducted MCS/MPS exams seven times.

On the other hand, the UPSC has been conducting its exams every year regularly.

As such, UPSC norms cannot be followed in MPSC exams, he asserted.

The DESAM functionary while warning against indulging in corruption and any form of unfair practice in the upcoming exams, further alleged that MPSC was involved in the worst form of corruption.

He further warned MPSC not to make any process to conduct exams with one-time age relaxation and also not to publish advertisements or notices for the same exam.

Newton also urged upon the Chief Minister and the DP Secretary to look into the matter.
