Imphal, September 08 2023:
Following the visit of Justice UB Saha, Chairman, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to various relief camps in Churachandpur, Imphal East, Kakching and Thoubal on August 30 and September 5, the MHRC has reportedly submitted its recommendations to the State Government, according to a well-placed source.
The MHRC has reportedly suggested to the Government to protect and safeguard the land and residences of displaced persons from both communities in Imphal, Churachandpur and other places.
This is to ensure that land owners can resettle when they return, or when the Government makes arrangements for their resettlement, said the source.
Secondly, the MHRC has recommended giving training and facilities for self-employment to the IDPs along with engaging them in the MNREGA scheme.
MHRC has also given a recommendation to the Government to provide essential commodities such as mattresses, blankets, medicines etc and study materials to the displaced children/students in the relief camps of Churachandpur, if necessary, by way of air lifting.
Coming to the medical needs of the IDPs, the source informed that MHRC has instructed the State Government to ensure that doctors visit the relief camps at least once a week.
Further it suggested that the District Administration along with the Government should make necessary arrangements to provide proper formal education to the displaced students.
Lastly, MHRC asked the Government to take up necessary action to recover all the arms and ammunition which were looted from police armories and Churachandpur Gun House, said the source.
