Imphal, December 23 2024:
Asserting that the world has seen significant changes in various fields including traditional crafts, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) managing director E Jiten has stressed the need for state artisans to adapt to the global changes.
He was attending the closing ceremony of State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) organised by MHHDCL under the sponsorship of the office of the development commission (Handloom), ministry of textiles at the Manipur State Film Development Society complex here on Monday.
Speaking as chief guest at the event, Jiten emphasised the need for following the global trend and product modern apparels apart from the traditional handloom products.
Simply producing the same traditional products repetitively in every exhibition will not be able to attract customers.
The artisans need to study and understand the changing world and customers' choice in order to deliver the right products.
It will help in bringing growth in the handloom sector of the state, he added.
Weavers' Service Centre deputy director Priyadarsh-ini Daripa presided over the closing function while MHHHDCL general manager Th Basanta and national awardee (design) Chirom Indira attended as guests of honour.
