Jiribam, June 15 2024:
Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) and United Jiri Youth League (UJYL) have demanded the government to address the urgent needs of the people living in Jiribam district, regardless of whether the chief minister is paying a visit or not.
Addressing a press meet held at the JDO office on Friday afternoon, JDO president Elangbam Dewan expressed frustration over the Chief Minister 's repeated postponements of his visit to Jiribam district.
The people of Jiribam want the government to fulfil their demands irrespective of the CM's visit or not, said Dewan.
The demands include reconstruction of houses damaged in the recent conflict and prompt resettlement of the affected residents.
Dewan also called for upgrading of police outposts in Chhotobekra, Jirimukh, and Makhabasti under Borobekra sub-division, and establishment of a new outpost in Lamtai Khunnou, the village most severely affected by the recent violence.
He criticised the government for failing to deploy state forces in the affected areas and demanded immediate action to ensure security.
Highlighting the dire situation at Jiribam hospital, Dewan pointed out that the facility exists "just for namesake", only with doctors often reluctant to join their posts.
He emphasised that CSOs, student bodies, and Meira Paibi Lups have repeatedly raised this issue, urging the government authorities to take up necessary measures given that the hospital is the district's sole healthcare provider.
Dewan also urged organisations visiting Jiribam to assist the affected residents by coordinating with local groups and to base their opinions only after a thorough understanding of the situation.
The press meet was also attended by JDO general secretary H Priyananda and UJYL president Ph Gyanendra, who supported the calls for immediate government intervention to address the pressing issues being faced by the people of Jiribam district.
