Imphal, May 19 2025:
A media sensitization programme on "Manipur Technical University" was held today at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Jointly organised by MTU and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), the media sensitization programme was conducted to raise awareness about the University, which offers a variety of courses, among students, parents and the public.
The inaugural session was graced by Ramananda Nongmeikapam, Registrar, MTU as the chief guest; Khogendra Khomdram, president, Editors' Guild of Manipur (EGM) as the guest of honour and Asem Bhakta, president, AMWJU, as the functional president.
Speaking as chief guest, Ramananda Nongmeikapam pointed out that MTU is the lone technical university in the State.
It offers five programmes under Bachelor of Technology (BTech) - Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The University also has a Management Department, Basic Sciences Department and Humanities & Social Science Department.
Saying that MTU also offers an MBA programme as a PG course, he stressed on the status of MTU as the sole technical university in Manipur.
Touching on the preference for engineering courses among Manipuri students, he maintained that only a few are selected as Government nominees via entrance exams.
But around 2000 students opt for engineering disciplines every year after passing Class X or XII, he said.
Crores are spent by parents who send their wards to private engineering colleges.
In order to reduce this financial drain from the State, there is a need for increased public awareness about Manipur Technical University, said Ramananda Nongmeikapam.
Highlighting a plus point, Ramananda focused on the qualified faculty of MTU who are alumni of many noted institutions in India.
It also has a well-stocked library and plans are underway to add more books on competitive exams.
Other amenities available at MTU include modem laboratories with necessary equipment and spiritual programs for the well-being of students.
Further, MTU has a sexual harassment committee and is undertaking many Government projects.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Khogendra Khomdram recalled the establishment of MTU in 2016.On another note, he informed that a programme on "media ethics" will be conducted by EGM and DIPR soon.
During the second session of the programme, the MTU Registrar along with the Heads of nine departments fielded questions posed by media persons.
