RIMS holds rites of passage ceremony

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, held its Graduation Day Ceremony at the Jubilee Hall on Friday, celebrating the achievements of 370 graduates across various disciplines.
According to a press release issued by RIMS Media Cell, the event was held with Government of India's Health Services director general Prof Atul Goel as chief guest and RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma as the functional president.

College principal Dr B Praveen Reddy, RIMS College of Nursing principal Prof H Jamuna Devi and Organising Committee chairperson Prof Th Meera, faculty members, and parents of the graduates were also present at the event.

In his speech, Prof Atul Goel emphasised that real learning begins in clinical practice, and urged the graduates to practice responsible prescription writing while warning against unnecessary medications influenced by the pharmaceutical industry.
He highlighted the risks of improper drug use, rising healthcare costs, and the importance of preventive care.
Advocating for lifestyle modifications, he introduced "Brahmohurat" (waking before sunrise) as vital for health and criticised late-night habits and excessive screen use, along with calling for lifestyle education in medical training.
RIMS director Prof G Sunil encouraged the graduates to embrace compassion, integrity, dedication, and innovation in their medical careers.
He stressed that medicine is about serving humanity and urged them to commit to lifelong learning and improvement in healthcare.
The event featured a lamp lighting ceremony, the conferral of degrees, and an oath-taking pledge to uphold ethical medical practice.
Outstanding students were honoured with gold medals and special awards for excellence in academics, research, and clinical practice.
The valedictorian reflected on their academicjourney, and expressed gratitude to mentors and loved ones.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, group photos, and celebrations with family and friends, the release conveyed.
