Imphal, May 06 2025: A one-day seminar on "Earthquake Resistant Structural Design" was organised on Tuesday by the Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre at its seminar hall.

The event was held in the wake of a recent 7.5 magnitude earthquake in neighbouring Myanmar.

According to a press release by IEI Manipur State Centre, the seminar aims to raise awareness among engineers and students about seismic safety and the importance of earthquake-resistant construction practices.

PDA executive engineer Ng Dilip Meitei delivered the technical talk on earthquake resistant structural design as the resource person.

Other dignitaries included the IEI Manipur chairman L Swamikanta Singh, immediate past chairman W Homendro Singh, and honorary secretary Dr Th Subhaschandra Singh.

In his presidential address, chairman Swamikanta stressed the relevance of the topic in the light of the recent seismic activity and highlighted the responsibilities of engineers in ensuring safety during building construction.

He praised the participation of professionals and students at the seminar.

The event was sponsored by Harimita Constructions, and its proprietor Naoba Thoudam, was felicitated by the chairman.

Engineers from various departments, corporate members of IEI, special invitees, and students attended the event.
