Kakching, June 15 2024:
Local residents of Irengband, Hawairou, and Mairenbam organised a protest on Saturday to express their frustration over the deteriorating condition of the Kakching-Tekcham road.
The protesters temporarily blocked the road, which is a vital link for their communities.
The protestors highlighted that the road has been neglected for a long time, causing severe hardships Co the residents, particularly those from Irengband, Mairenbam, Hawairou, and Sora Karanchi, who rely on the road to reach Kakching Keithel and for agricultural and farming activities.
Students also face significant difficulties while traveling to school due to the poor condition of the road.
Protesters chanted slogans demanding immediate repair of the road.
Nungleppam William, one of the protestors, mentioned that local residents gather on the 15th of every month to discuss social issues.
They used this regular meeting to organise the protest and highlight their demands to the chief minister and the local MLA.
William pointed out that the road has been neglected for nearly a decade now.
The protestors demanded that once the government initiates the repair work, it should provide project details to the Irengband GP administrative committee, People's Protection Force, and Meira Paibi Lups.
They also warned of more intense agitation if the government failed to begin the repair work by June 30 .
