Sit-in protests unbearable demands

Imphal, July 11 2024:
Various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Meira Paibi Lups of Kakching area organised a sit-in protest on Thursday at Kakching Keithel near Ibudhou Naohallai against unbearable and unaffordable monetary demands insisted by different groups and organisations.
The protest was jointly organised by All Kakching Clubs' Coordinating Committee, an apex body of 19 clubs in Kakching area, along with Senior Citizens' Forum Kakching, Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) Kakching, Volunteers' Co-ordinating Committee Kakching, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA), Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup, and Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup.
Protestors held placards with slogans such as "Do not place demand, let us contribute", "People are volunteering for village defence", "Do not make unaffordable monetary demands", and "Stop trying to destroy unity" .
The protest highlighted the financial strain on the local community caused by these demands.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, All Kakching Clubs' Coordinating Committee secretary Mayanglambam Maniyaima expressed the community's concerns.
He highlighted that people are suffering and the economy crippled.
Despite these challenges, the community is still contributing to help those affected by the crisis.
He urged the groups making demands to stop imposing unaffordable monetary demands on small business owners and government employees and to accept their voluntary contributions instead.
