Imphal, May 06 2025: A Mental Health Programme under the theme "Making Maximum out of College" was jointly organised by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Imphal College and Share and Care (SAC), Wangkhei at the College's seminar hall, on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by SAC founder professor RK Lenin, SAC brarid ambassador Tonthoi, College principal professor M Chandra Singh and Imphal College Teachers' Association president Dr L Ibungo Singh as presidium members.

In his address, Dr RK Lenin stated that college students are at a transitional stage in life, moving from adolescence into adulthood.

It is a period where they are nearing the completion of their studies and beginning to consider their future careers.

At the same time, they are also entering a phase where personal relationships and the idea of starting a family become more prominent.

These significant life changes can create mental and emotional challenges, which is why mental health programmes are especially important in colleges, he said.

Dr Lenin also mentioned that during this phase of life, students not only struggle with mental health issues but also face a range of other challenges, including the urge to experiment with drugs, and high incidence of suicidal tendencies.

While such tendencies can be found across various age groups, they are particularly prevalent among youth aged 15 to 25 years largely due to factors such as academic pressure and romantic relationships, he noted.
