Imphal, May 16 2024:
A seminar on Export Awareness and Facilitation' was organised by The Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) under the Ministry of Textiles at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal, here, on Thursday.
The seminar was attended by HEPC executive director N Sridhar, state's Handloom and Textiles director K Lamlee Kamei, joint director E Jiten, Weavers Service Centre deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa, National Handloom Development Council deputy regional manager Y Shantikumar, weavers and entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, N Sridhar informed that the Council has been organising seminars and awareness programmes in collaboration with handloom clusters, apart from sharing suggestions on exporting woven domestic products, with changes in the design, to the international market.
Apart from organising seminars with state authorities and local entrepreneurs to identify the best way to export the local products, steps are also taken to discern which products would be best for which country.
As each state has its own well-known indigenous products, around 20 international fairs are held every year to have the products recognised in the international market.
In addition to conducting surveys of potential products suitable for the international market, HEPC has been trying to preserve local products under the PM's "Vocal for Local, Local for Global", and "Make in India", he conveyed.
Informing that there are no rigid criteria to become members of HEPC, Sridhar said that any artisan or manufacturer can apply for membership via the official contacts in Guwahati, Delhi and Chennai.
The members are then informed of the regulations and subsidies provided for selling their products at the international market, apart from attending various events like Buyer Seller Meet, Reverse Buyer Seller Meet, he added.
