Fitting tribute paid to A Samarendra

Manipur State Shumang Leela Council, Palace Compound observed the 15th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen today.
Chief guest of the event Soraisam Iboton, social worker, during his speech credited the late artiste with the promotion of folk dance and music form in the State.
"Manipuri folk art would have reached a greater height had the late poet and playwright been among us till today," Iboton lamented.
Shumang Leela Council president M Punimashi Leima, theatre directors Ksh Jugindro Singh and P Khogendra Singh also attended the observation.
Floral tributes were paid at the portrait of the late artiste during the event.
Pari Imom Kanba Lup, Imphal East also observed the 15th Arambam Samarendra Martyrdom Anniversary at Lainingthou Puthiba Shanglen today.
Professor of Department of PMR of RIMS, Dr Y Nandabir, Organising Committee chairman and DM College of Commerce Assistant Professor S Rajen and Manipur University's Department of Commerce Professor Dr Kh Dhiren Meitei graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A painting competition for school children was also held in two categories as part of the anniversary function.
312 students took part in the competition.
Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 were rewarded with certificates to first, second and third position holders while other position holders up to 10th position were given 500 with certificates.
