Many MLAs unhappy over situation in Moreh

Imphal, January 21 2024: With state security forces becoming soft target for Kuki militants from within the state and Myanmar as well, some ruling MLAs are not satisfied with the way the government has been dealing the situation and even expressed that it would be better for them to go to Moreh.

As the crisis is in its ninth month and people continue to voice their resentment against the way the Central forces are handling the situation, drone footages emerging every now and then only deepen the public's suspicion regarding neutrality of at least some units of central security forces.

There are also reports of central forces not receiving any instruction to use force against the militants attacking police personnel.

There were also recent videos of Kuki militants forcing two Assam Rifles Casspir vehicles to turn back at gun point, consequently diluting trust on the central security forces.

An audio recording of a senior commando officer went viral on social media on Wednesday aftermath of Kuki militants using RPG and sniper rifles on t he state forces that claimed the lives of two CDO personnel.

In the audio, the CDO officer is heard saying, "Kuki militants are specifically targeting the CDOs deployed in Moreh.

We endured whatever we could.

Now our commandos are getting killed and injured.

We have been exercising restraint but they are using war munitions" .

The CDO officer also said that the militants are firing incendiary munitions too for burning state force camps.

"When retaliated by state, they ran shouting in Burmese language.

We will carry out our duty.

Everybody watch (the visuals) like a festival.

We do not need anybody to come to rescue use, we will do our duty," the CDO officer said in the audio in a tone of resentment.

Even though the chief minister N Biren has been convening series of meeting with MLAs and ministers as well as senior officers of the government in his office secretariat, many of the ruling MLAs are reported to be unimpressed with the way the government is dealing the situation.

Some are even questioning the rationale behind the deployment of additional state forces in Kasom Khullen instead of Moreh, while saying that it would be better for them to go to Moreh and encourage the state forces.

Mention may be made that state security forces in Moreh have been on the target of Kuki militants.

There have been multiple attacks in this month alone and the attack intensified after the arrest of two prime suspects in the assassination of SDPO Anand.

On January 17, two Commando (CDO) personnel were killed and many others injured in attacks by Kuki militants in Moreh.

Reports suggest that the militants employed a range of weapons, including RPGs, incendiary munitions, illuminating mortars, and snipers in the brazen assault.

The border town of Moreh has been witnessing persistent attacks for several months, contributing to an atmosphere of heightened insecurity.

Consequently, the state government requested the Ministry of Home Affairs for helicopters to meet emergency requirements in the wake of law and order situation in the border town.

Following the state government's request to send a helicopter to meet emergency need in the volatile situation in Moreh, the ministry of home affairs has sent a helicopter of the Indian Air Force, which landed in Imphal Airport on Wednesday night.
