Students' rallies mark International Day of Forests

Imphal, March 19 2025:
Manipur Forest Department in collaboration with schools and environmental organisations organised students' rallies on Wednesday to commemorate the International Day of Forests.
The observance was aimed at raising awareness about the crucial role forests play in sustaining life on earth and to inspire young minds to become active participants in environmental conservation.
Hundreds of students from various schools across Imphal participated in the rally, carrying placards and banners with messages such as 'Save Forests, Save Future', 'Plant Trees, Save Lives', and 'Forests: Our Earth's Lungs' .

The rally began from Kangla Fort, covered key locations in the city, and ended at Palace Compound.
During the rally, students raised slogans advocating for afforestation, wildlife protection, and sustainable development.
Speaking at the programme, PCCF & HoFF and additional chief secretary Anurag Bajpai called for enhanced participation of youth in forest conservation.
He emphasised the urgent need to protect forests to combat climate change, prevent soil erosion, and maintain ecological balance.
"Forests are our lifeline.
They provide us with clean air, water, and countless resources essential for survival.
It is our responsibility to protect and restore them for future generations.
Through this rally, we aim to instil a sense of responsibility in our youth and encourage them to take active roles in conservation efforts," Anurag said.
The event was also attended by Central Circle conservator Rk Amarjit Singh; Southern Circle conservator Sanajaoba Khuraijam; Imphal West deputy commissioner Rajkumar Mayanglambam; Soil & Moisture Conservation Division DFO Wungrin Maulie; and Social Forestry DFO Y Kunje.
BISHNUPUR: In connection with the International Day of Forests, Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram on Wednesday flagged off a rally organised by the Bishnupur Forest Division.
The rally commenced from the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur with participation of students from three schools of the district.
The rally participants carrying banners inscribed with the message, "Save the Lungs of Earth, Plant and Protect Trees for Future Generations" marched through Bishn upur Bazar before concluding at the Bishnupur Forest Division Office.
Following the rally, an awareness programme on forest conservation was held at the Bishnupur Forest Division Office.
CHANDEL: A students' rally was held in Chandel district on Wednesday ahead of the observance of International Day of Forests on March 21.The rally, flagged off by Chandel ADC Md Firoz Khan, DFO Dr Naorem Munal Meitei and Chandel SDC Meshil Saka from the Chandel DC Office Complex passed through Japhou Bazar and ended at Chandel Women Market Complex.
The rally was participated by around 400 students, who also planted saplings at DC Office Complex and Chandel Women Market Complex.
THOUBAL: A half-marathon under the theme 'Forest and Food' was organised by Thoubal Forest Division on Tuesday, as part of the observance of International Day of Forests.
The marathon was flagged from Thoubal DC Office gate by Thoubal DC Ahanthem Subash and concluded at Kakching Range Forest Office.
