Two held in UPI fraud case

Imphal, March 19 2025: Cyber Crime Police arrested two people on the charge of committing UPI payment fraud in Khurkhul on March 15 .

The arrested people have been identified as Md Shoaib Ali (20) s/o (L) Md Riyakat Ali of Khabeisoi Mayai Leikai and Md Zuber Khan (27) s/o Md Abdul Kalam of Khomidok Heigrumakhong.

According to a police report, on March 13, the two purchased a sweater from a local outlet at Khurkhul Lamkhai and a 'Rani Phi' from Khurkhul Makha Leikai besides taking away Rs 12,000 in cash, while promising to make the payment via UPI (Gpay) .

Both of them sent a forged successful money transaction message to fraud the people.

On March 15, a Cyber Crime team arrested the duo from their respective residences.

During the investigation, it came to light that the two had sent fraudulent money transaction message to another victim for purchase of gold weighing approximately 5.891gm (two san and half chaning) at Yairipok Bamon Leikai on March 6 .

A complaint was also received of the same and they were formally arrested on March 17.They were produced before CJM Imphal East, which remanded them to judicial custody.
