National conference dissects ethical journalism

Imphal, January 31 2025:
Under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council, Shillong, ManipurUniversity's Department of Mass Communication in collaboration with NIBIAA Consultancy Private Limited organised two-day national conference on 'Empowering voices in North East India: A social dialogue on ethical journalism for a-vibrant future in the region' at Manipur University on Thursday.
The inaugural session of the conference held at MU court hall was attended by MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendro Singh as chief guest, NIBIAA Consultancy chairman Prof N Irahanta Singh as functional president, and MU social sciences dean Prof L Memcha and Rajiv Gandhi University's Journalism and Mass Communication HOD Prof Khaba Kabi as guests of honour.
In his address, Prof N Lokendra highlighted the challenges of misinformation, disinformation and fake news while stressing the need for fact-checking and media literacy.
On the final day of the technical session chaired by Dr Nawaz Khan Thouba at Department of Mass Communication seminar hall on Friday, Imphal Review of Arts and Politics editor Pradip Phanjoubam delivered a lecture on 'Trauma representation', while United News of India chief bureau Ningthoukhongjam Satyajeet talked on 'Truth and Ethics' .
Robinson Wahengbam, Khamveer Ngoruw Moyon, Yumnam Arnest, Sonia Meitram, Hemant Windy Chanu, Rambha Devi Mairembam, Haobijam Chinglemba and Tera Varen-than Vashim presented papers in the session.
