Imphal, May 14 2025:
While calling for efficient functioning of the PMGSY state office, All Manipur Contractors' Association Forum demanded an enquiry into its operations from the appointment of chief engineer to allotment of tenders and release pending bills for contractors.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday, Forum convener Th Samarendra demanded that the government intervene immediately to prevent corrupt practices in PMGSY state office and order thorough enquiry to ascertain how effectively the office has been operating.
He also demanded immediate release of pending bills for contractors.
According to Samarendra, while local contractors have no right to prohibit external construction companies executing projects in the state, priority should be given to the local contractors in the implementation of projects under PMGSY phase-3 .
He claimed that local contractors have been executing PMGSY projects in the state since the year 2021, underlining their commitment and reliability.
While condemning the remark made by chief engineer of Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency regarding PMQSY through a press conference on May 12, Th Samarendra said PMGSY phase-1 and 2 have been successfully implemented in the state despite challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing conflict.
He also mentioned that contractors have suffered losses of machinery amid the ongoing conflict since May 3, citing the same as the primary reason for the delay in completion of PMGSY projects in the state.
