Training on anti-child marriage law held DIO

Thoubal, May 11 2025:
District Health Society under the aegis of Thoubal district administration organised a one day training cum awareness generation programme for health staff and ASHAs on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 as part Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat Campaign at PHC Charangpat on Sunday.
Presided over by senior MO in-charge Dr Mona Angom, the programme was attended by JAS Committee members, IRCS secretary K Sadananda Singh and K Lokendro Singh of NYK, Thoubal as special guests, along with staff and ASHAs of PHC, Charangpat.
NTCP DNO Dr M Bikramjit Singh, district program manager Ch Basanta Singh and district community mobiliser (Thoubal) Md Riyas Sheikh were the main speakers of the day.
In his address, Ch Basanta reflected on objective of such awareness programmes along with stressing the importance on ASHAs and stakeholders getting acquainted with legal framework of child marriage laws and reporting cases to the authorities.
He also emphasised that marriages below the legal age are punishable offences and even parents and guests attending such weddings could face penalties.
The district program manager also explained about the use of Child Helpline no 1098 and Emergency Helpline no 112 .
Dr M Bikramjit explained on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 to the participants.
It may be mentioned that "Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat" campaign was launched on November 27, 2024 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to eradicate child marriage.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of child marriage and eliminate it from across the country.
