Fast unto-death stir on ILPS underway

Imphal, August 27 2015:
Demanding immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System or similar law in Manipur to protect the indigenous communities of the State, seven volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have started fourth phase of indefinite hunger strike since 9 am of Wednesday in front of the alliance head office, Keishampat Junction.
The hunger strikers are finance secretary of DESAM Bishnupur District Council, Nongthombam Naoba (18) (Thambal Marik College, Oinam) of Oinam Nongthombam Leikai; secretary organisation and co-ordination of DESAM Imphal West District Council, Yenshembam Ashokumar (17) of Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai; secretary general of DESAM Pangantabi Wangoo Unit Council, Mayengbam Somorjit (21) of Pangantabi Awang Leikai; Oinam Romesh (17) (Thambal Marik College, Oinam) of Phubala Makha Leikai; Huidrom Johnson (16) (North Point Higher Secondary School) of Khumbong Mayai Leikai; Laitonjam Poireihanba Meetei (20) (DM College) of Mongjam Mamang Leikai Imphal East and Nameirakpam Chingkhei (13) (North Point Higher Secondary School) of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
On the indefinite hunger strike launched by many volunteers of DESAM in different parts of the valley districts, alliance president Moirangthem Angamba said that this hunger strike will continue until the demand for implementation of ILPS in the State is fulfilled.
If the Government fails to pass the Bill on ILPS in the State Assembly, more intensified agitations will follow, apart from more fast-unto-death agitations, affirmed Angamba.
On the other hand, Yumlembam Inaobi (17) of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai who has been on fast at the waiting shed of Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai since 3:30 pm of August 25 strongly condemned the brutal killing of Sapam Robinhood and harassment meted out to a minor girl student by police personnel during an agitation.
She said that she will continue the hunger strike until a law is implemented in Manipur to protect the indigenous people.
Meanwhile, the hunger strike in front of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy by several students entered its fourth day on Thursday.
