Biennial elections to 56 Rajya Sabha will be held on March 26 following retirement of as many members, including Rishang Keishing from Manipur.
The date of retirement of Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing falls on April 9 this year.
According to the poll schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, election notifications will be issued on March 8 and the last date for filing nominations will be on March 15.Scrutiny will take place on March 17, last date for withdrawal of nominations will be on March 19.The poll will take place from 9 am to 4 pm of March 26. Counting of votes will take place on March 26 at 5 pm .
The election process is to be completed by March 29.
Seven members are retiring from Maharashtra followed by six each from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, five each from West Bengal and Bihar, four each from Orissa and Gujarat.
Three members from Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Rajasthan, two each from Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and one each from Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya will retire in April.
One from Arunachal Pradesh will retire in May.
Those three Rajya Sabha MPs from Assam retiring on April 9 are Karnendu Bhattacharjee, Dwijendra Nath Sharmah and Urkhao Gwra Brahma.
Robert Kharshing from Meghalaya is retiring on April 12 and Nabam Rebia from Arunachal Pradesh on May 26.
