Indefinite U-K road bandh continues

Uripok locals continued to block Uripok-Kangchup road demanding action against the police personnel who thrashed Tourangbam (O) Tarini today as well.
They also took out a rally passing through the residence of Uripok AC MLA Laishram Nandakumar in the afternoon.
Since morning, locals and JAC members blocked Uripok-Kangchup road demanding action against the guilty police personnel and supporting the pro-ILPS stir spearheaded by JCILPS.
The bandh supporters mostly womenfolk prevented movement of vehicles at different localities the whole day.
Usual scenes of burning tyres and placing bamboos and boulders on the road were seen and the road wore a deserted look throughout the day.
As in the past two days, essential services staff and persons going for religious activities were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Large number of people who came out from different localities of Uripok took out a rally towards Khwairamband bazar in the afternoon.
The rallyists took a u-turn below BT Flyover near Uripok Cheirap Court complex and returned towards Sorbol Thingel.
However, some irate youth who took part in the rally pelted stones at the police personnel present there.
Police managed to push back the youth up to Uripok Sorbon Thingel and asked the leaders of JAC and womenfolk to prevent them from resorting to pelting stones.
After the JAC members controlled the angry youth using loud speakers, police, JAC leaders and womenfolk discussed the matter for around one hour at Uripok Gopalji Leirak.
Imphal West DC also came to the area to take stock of the situation.
Later, after taking permission from the police and the Duty Magistrate present at the spot, womenfolk took out a rally from Sorbol Thingel.
The rally passed through MLA L Nandakumar's Nagamapal residence.
A large number of Imphal west district police personnel escorted the rallyists to thwart untoward incidents.
