Imphal, February 15:
A youth allegedly pulled up by troops 24 Assam Rifles posted at Moreh from Gate no 2 of the border town on January 27 remains untraceable till date.
The disappeared youth is identified as Abi Chiru (18) s/o Pasoneng Chiru of Uran Chiru village under Irilbung police station.
Abi was pulled up by the AR troops when he was going for shopping at Namphalong market with one Nungshiba Kom s/o Akhup Kom of Kangathel village, Churachandpur district.
During a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today, Nungshiba Kom allegd that he met Abi at Moreh parking, Kangla Park on January 27.As both of them were going to Moreh to buy some household articles, they went together in a Tata Sumo.
Nungshiba said that he was acquainted with Abi since earlier.
On reaching Moreh at about 3.30 pm of the same day, they headed together towards Moreh gate no 2.There they were accosted by some AR personnel.
Then they took Abi inside their camp while he was asked to go saying that they would question Abi further.
On the next day, he could not find Abi anywhere in Moreh town.
Thinking that Abi might have gone home, Nungshiba also came back on the same day, he recounted.
On reaching Imphal, he went to Abi's home but it was found that he had not come back yet.
After a written representation about the incident was submitted to the Komrem Development Organisation, the family members of Abi together with some functionaries of the Komrem Development Organisation went to Moreh on February 6 .
Together with the ADC of Moreh, they enquired about Abi at 24 Assam Rifles.
But the CO of the AR unit denied pulling up Abi.
Nevertheless, the CO reportedly told the families he will make more enquiries about the matter.
This was followed by a complaint to the Manipur Human Rights Commission on February 13.Subsequently, the Commission has sought a report on the complaint from the DGP yesterday.
Moreover, a complaint has also been lodged at Irilbung police station today, informed Nungshiba Kom.
Conveying that a public meeting has been convened at Uran Chiru tomorrow, secretary of the Komrem Development Organisation said that further course of actions will be taken up in accordance to resolutions adopted during the public meeting.
Taking part in the press meet, MAFYF president Kangleipal asserted that he can produce witness to AR troops pulling up Abi Chiru.
Alleging that the 24 AR posted at Moreh are often embroiled in controversies, Kangleipal maintained that it would be prudent on the part of Assam Rifles to release Abi before the matter becomes a major issue.
Recalling that there have been numerous cases of involuntary disappearance after many people were picked up by security forces, he cautioned against inviting a strong people's movement.
Meanwhile, the Centre of Organisation Research and Education (CORE) has written to the Amnesty International, OMCD Geneva and Asian Human Rights Commission (Hong Kong) to persuade the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Manipur so that Abi Chiru is released at the earliest.
