Imphal, June 22:
After a joint meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and editors was held today at Manipur Press Club, AMWJU has convened another meeting of all the journalists of the State at 11 am of June 25 at Manipur Press Club.
According to an AMWJU release, the main agenda of the meeting would be frequent intimidations to the media by armed groups.
The joint meeting held today deliberated on the move of the State Government to cancel RNI numbers of those newspapers which publish press statements of banned groups and the threats of Kokkai who identified himself as an activist of the KCP (Lamphel) to the AMWJU president and the general secretary.
The meeting also strongly condemned the act of KCP (Lamphel) summoning the president and the general secretary of AMWJU to a location either outside Manipur or in one of the hill districts of the State.
It also decried the group's threat that all newspaper firms should suspend their publication and that bullets will be distributed to each of the newspaper offices in case a press statement issued by the group against the AMWJU's code of conduct is not published.
On the day of the meeting (June 25), all journalists will suspend their works and there would be no publication of any newspaper on the next day, it informed.
Appealing to all journalists to arrive at the Press Club before 11 am without fail, AMWJU cautioned that any AMWJU member failing to attend the meeting in time would be suspended from its membership.
