Imphal, June 22:
Even though a Congress led Government has been installed, inability to use the power for the right purpose would cause more miseries to the people.
So the power bestowed should be utilised judiciously, Rajya Sabha MP and seasoned Congressman Rishang Keishing has cautioned.
Addressing a day-long political conference organised by Uripok Block Congress Committee at Iroisemba Community Hall today, Keishing observed that those who are at the helm of power but could not utilise it properly should be rectified while there is time.
Otherwise, it would cause more miseries to the people.
He said that any possible difference that may be there between the Government and the party should be sorted out through frequent meetings of the leaders from both sides and take the people into confidence.
Stating that no party would last without the support of the people, the seasoned politician advised the Government to work along with understanding of the pulse of the people as there is no political party which can substitute the Congress party.
It is right time for the present Government to be more liberal in its outlook and work accordingly, he said, adding that the Government should start thinking about a long term plan for the welfare of around 1.5 lakhs people living on terrace cultivation under most trying conditions in the hill districts of the State.
Impetus can also be given on promotion of horticultural activities in the hill area so as to improve the financial position of the people, he suggested.
While disclosing the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre has been providing huge amount of fund under State plan for the development of the State, Keishing noted that the same has not been able to utilise properly and the developmental works being taken up are wanting in many ways.
He also demanded to know why steps have not been taken up for road connectivity of all the hill districts in the State so far.
Observing that with increase in the number of underground outfits, cases of monetary demands and extortions has been on the rise, Keishing said this situation must be understood by all so that necessary corrective measures can be taken up.
The Government should also find out the ways for holding talks with the UGs.
Otherwise, there would be no future for the people in the State, Keishing noted.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, who also spoke at the occasion, pointed out that the developmental works that are being executed or that would be taken up by the Government in future should be made known to the people through the efforts of party workers.
He also appealed for dispelling difference of opinion between the Government and the party and working together for the betterment of the State and its people.
He further said that Congress party is a party of the people and it does not discriminate people on the basis of caste, creed, religion.
So every efforts should be made toward strengthening the party.
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya, MLA L Nandakumar, MPCC general secretary (administration) Bidyapati Senjam, Mahila Congress president Priyomala, Youth Congress president Tilotama, etc were also among others who spoke at the political conference.
