Imphal, May 20 2015 :
Devolution of power to the ADCs is anticipated in the next five years.
This was stated by Haokholal Hangshing, chairman of Sadar Hills ADC in the last half of the previous term during the flag hoisting ceremony of Bhumi Prasad Basnet, INC candidate for Irang Part-II DCC today at Upper Maohing village.
Haokholal who got elected unopposed from Kangpokpi DCC on INC ticket this time said that the last ADC election was held in May 2010 after a gap of about 20 years.
The ADCs have been functioning without devolution of power so far.
ADC Coordination Committee was formed in the last term to press the State as well as the Centre Govt to devolve power to the ADCs.
As such, the ADCs members had not done much other than pressing the Centre and State for devolution of power during the last five years, he said.

Since the role and responsibilities of the ADCs have been vested with the MLAs and Ministers for over 20 years, it is not an easy task to take over the power from them, Haokholal said.
He exuded confidence that the manoeuvre of the ADCs members during the last term would pay dividends in the next five years.
Therefore, it would be more advantageous to go along with the Congress Govt of the State, he said.
Saying that there is multiparty system in India, Haokholal said all concerned has the liberty to choose the party of their choice.
However, candidates who have shifted party loyalty this time may not receive any benefit if the power is devolved to the ADC.
Although the BJP came to power at the Centre, the Congress will triumph again in the next Assembly election, he said.
Haokholal Hangshing later hoisted the flag of Seikhosat Kipgen, INC candidate for Tujang Waichong DCC at Selsi village.
