SFs recover nine IEDs, two rockets

Imphal, December 23 2024:
A joint bomb squad team defused at least nine IEDs found planted on a RCC bridge near Leishang village in Churachandpur district on Monday, while large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered in search operations conducted in different parts of the state in the past 24 hours.
According to a police source, a team of Churachandpur district police detected an IED underneath an RCC bridge located between Leishang and Monglenphai villages along NH-2 road (Tiddim road) in Churachandpur district at about 11 am Monday.
Upon receiving report of the IED, a joint bomb squad team of 36 Assam Rifles and 129 Bn CRPF carried out thorough search resulting in recovery of nine circuit IEDs planted by making holes on the RCC bridge.
Along with defusing the IEDs, further search led to recovery of 40 metres Cordex wire, nine detonators (No 87 commercial), one non-electrical commercial detonator, 3.6kg explosive (Neogel 90), and six safety fuses.
All the defused IEDs and other recovered items were later handed over to the Churachandpur police station for further necessary action, while a case has been registered at the same police station for further investigation.
Our Churachandpur correspondent reported that search operations near the bridge led by a Colonel of AR and Major Tiwari of CRPF ended at 3 pm.
Meanwhile, a joint team of 19 Garhwal Rifles, 58 Bn CRPF, 115 BSF A-Coy and Churachandpur district police conducted search operation at Teijang village under Churachandpur district from 7.30 am till 9.30 am on Monday.
During the search, the joint team recovered two rockets (5.4 feet and 4.5 feet), one .315 rifle with magazine, four pistols with magazines, one Pompi gun, five Pompi bombs, 45 low grade explosive sticks each weighing 125 gm, 14 detonators and 21 rounds of pistols and rifles.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Police Control Room on Sunday informed that a joint security conducted search operations at Phayeng, Songlung and Chiru villages in Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts on Sunday.
The team recovered 11 rounds of SLR and 66 casings, one battery for radio set and antenna from Phayeng Porom Ching area, and 102 casings of AK rifles, two of SLR, one 12 bore cartridge and a local made bomb from K Songlung village.
The statement further said that a joint security team raided the house of Arambai Tenggol member Asem Canon, (50), son of Ibochouba of Uripok Sorbon Thingel on Sunday in connection with a case registered at Imphal West district police relating to hijacking of a SUV (Fortuner) vehicle from a civilian on October 1, 2024 .
The house was raided based on specific information that Canon and his associates are using the snatched vehicle.
Canon and his associates were not at the house but the joint security team recovered one DVR machine for CCTV, one i10 car, three bags, one life jacket (SDRF), one air gun and two jackets with BP plates.
